NOW HIRING FOR: PRODUCTION ASSISTANT/PREP COOK

This is a part-time, year round position starting in March 2026

Overview
Red Kettle Foods LLC, maker of Red Kettle Kimchi, is hiring for a part-time production assistant in our kitchen in Belfast, Maine. We’re looking for someone to help package kimchi, prepare ready-to-eat Asian-inspired meals for sale at farmers markets, and assist with catering and private dining events. Our ideal candidate is someone who has previous experience in the restaurant or foodservice industry, has an eye for detail and precision, and enjoys interacting with customers at events or markets. This position is a great fit for someone looking to fill in their summer work schedule with another day or two of paid work.

This year, we are expanding our prepared foods options at farmers markets to include bento boxes and Asian-style cold desserts. There's also the option to serve guests at catered events over the summer and fall. The Production Assistant/Prep Cook will be leading weekly prep for prepared foods as well as helping to package kimchi for retail sale.

Hours
8-10 hours a week in the off season (Oct-May), up to 16 hours a week in high season (June-Sep). Basically one day a week in the off season, up to 2 days a week during tourist season depending on volume. Nights/weekends are NOT required!

Compensation
Starting at $19/hour

Responsibilities

  • chopping vegetables, measuring and mixing ingredients, and other cooking tasks
  • preparing and packaging ready-to-eat meals for sale
  • taking pH and temperature readings of fermented products
  • packaging kimchi and other finished products for sale
  • clean and sanitize cookware, cooking utensils, and kitchen surfaces
  • monitor stock and quality of ingredients and supplies
  • load and unload product, supplies, and equipment as needed
  • assisting with prep and service at catering and pop-up dining events
  • We anticipate more opportunities within the company for the right candidate!

Requirements

  • experience as a prep cook in a professional restaurant or catering setting
  • knowledge of safe knife handling and advanced knife skills
  • must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 lbs
  • must be comfortable loading and unloading supplies and equipment to tight spaces or high shelving
  • experience with allergen safety training and cross-contamination risks in a commercial kitchen

Qualifications/Licenses

  • at least 1 year prior professional experience in restaurants/food service
  • Servsafe or equivalent food handling certificate (we will reimburse for the right candidate!)
